If you’ve ever opened a tub of REZCUE and noticed a faint ammonia-like smell, you’re definitely not the only one. We receive the occasional message from customers asking whether this is normal, whether the product has “gone bad”, or whether they should swap it for another tub.
The short answer?
Don't worry, it’s normal, it’s safe, and an exchange might not help as this issue is usually related to whole batches.
In this article we'll breakdown the science for you.
What’s causing the smell?
REZCUE contains two powerful, active ingredients:
L-Glutamine and Zinc L-Carnosine. When these sit very closely together in a dry powder, an extremely tiny amount of glutamine can naturally convert into glutamate and release a trace amount of ammonia gas.
This is called deamidation, a well-understood, harmless chemical reaction that happens only on the surface of the powder. It requires only microscopic amounts of moisture, which is completely normal in any dry nutritional ingredient.
To be clear:
-
It affects only a tiny fraction of the glutamine.
-
It does not mean anything has “gone off”.
-
It does not impact safety, quality, or effectiveness.
Why only some batches?
This mild smell appears only occasionally because of natural differences that occur when working with pure, filler-free ingredients.
Our recent technical analysis showed that several micro-factors can influence whether the smell appears, including:
-
Particle size differences in the Zinc L-Carnosine
-
Slight variations in trace moisture (even below 0.1%)
-
Minor differences in the surface texture of particles
-
How intimately the powders mix during blending
All batches remain within strict pharmaceutical specifications, these tiny variations are normal in the world of high-purity nutritional powders.
It would be easy for us to add a chemical stabilizer that would completely prevent this natural reaction, but we want REZCUE to be as filler free and pure product as possible. We choose not to use additives, stabilizers of flavors.
Is REZCUE still safe and effective?
Absolutely.
Every batch is independently tested, and the smell has no impact on:
-
Gut-soothing benefits
-
Mucosal healing support
-
Anti-inflammatory effects
-
Heartburn and acid reflux relief
Both ingredients remain fully stable and effective. The smell reflects a tiny surface reaction, not degradation of the product.
What if the smell bothers me?
Most customers barely notice it, and for many it fades quickly. But if you’d like to minimise it:
-
Give the jar a gentle shake to disperse trapped gas
-
Let it sit open for a few seconds before scooping
-
Mix with warm water — the smell disappears completely once dissolved
Why we don’t recommend replacing tubs for this issue
Because this is a natural and harmless behaviour of pure ingredients, swapping tubs rarely changes anything, especially if they’re from the same batch. The product remains completely safe and fully effective.
That said, we’re always here to support you, answer questions, and offer reassurance whenever you need it.
